Members will have noticed the KOM Financial Advice logo on the right sleeve of our jerseys and jackets. So who is behind it?
Dan Corbett is a long-time supporter of cycling clubs, teams and events, and became a SKCC kit sponsor several years ago. He’s the founder and CEO of King of the Mountain Financial Advice, which helps cyclists and triathletes with their investments, superannuation and insurance needs.
“I had been helping some St Kilda members with their financial advice for a few years, and decided it was time I would help one of Australia’s best clubs,” he says.
“I’m a SKCC member, as well as Eastern Suburbs in Sydney, and I’m proud to wear the club’s kit when I’m in Melbourne and often when travelling interstate.”
Dan has been a licensed financial adviser for 25 years and decided to combine his business with his passion for cycling. ‘KOM’ was born after chasing a Strava KOM with friends and hearing their complaints about finding the right kind of advice. Why not be the KOM or QOM or your financial situation?
“I started with financial advice and insurance, and have spent more time recently helping riders with superannuation advice given that most people feel largely left in the dark about super,” he says.
His wife Tanja, who plenty of the SKCC members have met too, is a qualified mortgage broker, which helps. “I’m just a phone call away for any member who is thinking about getting their finances in order, thinking about their retirement or anything really to do with money.”
Dan is a passionate cyclist. He competed in his first triathlon in 1990, ended up at the World 70.3 Champs in 2006, and then switched to road, crits, track and CX riding and racing. Alongside SKCC, Dan has supported many race teams and sponsored events and races all across the country, as well as dozens of SKCC members.
“I live and breathe cycling, and am often taking calls from my clients as soon as I jump off the saddle of my Trek Madone or even doing reviews on the bike” he says. “Cycling – and helping cyclists – is my life.”
