Reese Masita Everesting

How do you feel about Everesting Little Joe with some Everesting legends? Read on, for details from SKCC’s Reese Masita, who will be helping out!

Everesting started right here in Melbourne and is a phenomenon that has rippled through the cycling community and gone international. It is shrouded in secrecy as the Everesters guard their chosen mounds, then set out to test the limits of their endurance in order to be the FIRST to Everest a particular climb… and if successful, take their place in the Hells 500 hall of fame. Even parts of physical fitness, mental strength and bloody minded determination are required to complete this feat, which involves repetitions of the chosen mountain, hill or elevation to notch a minimum ascent of 8,848 vertical metres, all in one continuous cycling effort.

THIS Saturday, 28th March (tomorrow – Ed), a group of guys will be Everesting Little Joe in Warburton for the Lilyroo cause. The riders will commence their conquering of this iconic climb at 4am. The entire Everest is expected to go for approximately 18 hours. 80 repetitions of a 1.5km stretch at 7% gradient for a total of 240kms. The riders will battle mental walls and fatigue… as the evening closes in things can get very warped.

Support is imperative so we would like to extend the invitation for your participation. If you would like to join this Everesting attempt, please let me know ASAP. We are also introducing a TEAMS FORMAT so you may split this Everest into blocks and relay this for a “Team Everest”. Notably Brendan Edwards is an Everesting legend in the Melbourne scene, he will notch his 6th and final Everest (I believe there are only 4 others that have completed this many).  Robin Weber is travelling down from NSW to participate in what will be his 3rd Everest.  John Van Seters will also be there!!

Here in Melbourne we are privileged with lots of STUNNING riding terrain and Warburton is right up there with the best of it. If you would like to offer your support to cheer them on along by planning a gorgeous ride, this is the day for it and we would love to see you there!!

The cause is one that is very dear to my heart for those of you who know me well. If you would be so kind, please help me support the Lilyroo Fund (http://lilyroo.org) which raises awareness for the wonderful work The Royal Womens Hospital does for premature babies. If you would like to donate to the fund, you can do so by following this link http://thewomens.gofundraise.com.au/page/everesting

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!! For more info contact me via reese.masita@gmail.com

Editor: Apologies; we previously posted that Reese was participating. This was incorrect, and we apologise for any confusion! Reese will be helping out, but as she is recovering from a broken collarbone, it might be a bit much to take on this challenge just at the moment!
