The first round of the Women’s KOM Financial Advice Handicap 3 Race Series is on this weekend and will be run as a graded handicap with all riders in the running for the series leader’s jersey and points towards the overall.
The prize pool for the series is $1000, split amongst the top 5 points earners as follows:
1st $400
2nd $250
3rd $150
4th $110
5th $90
8:00 am start, 45 mins + 3 laps
How does the graded handicap work?
Grades will be set off one after the other, with A grade first as usual, and marshals separating the grades. However, C grade will be considered to be on the lead lap (also known as limit)
The handicappers and race director have worked their magic and have determined that:
- Women’s A grade will need to lap Women’s B grade 3 times before the lower grade can join A grade.
- Women’s A grade will need to lap Women’s C grade 6 times before the lower grade can join A grade.
- Women’s B grade will need to lap Women’s C grade 3 times before the lower grade can join B grade.
Each grade will have marshals and they will instruct when enough laps have been taken and the grades can race together.
If a rider is dropped from their group or the race they should remove themselves from the race to avoid confusion. Lapped riders who are clearly not in the race will be instructed to withdraw.
The series dates are –
- Race 1 – February 11
- Race 2 – February 25
- Race 3 – March 18
Placing for points is taken to 5th
- 1st – 10 points
- 2nd – 8 points
- 3rd – 6 points
- 4th – 4 points
- 5th – 2 points
On top of the series prize money, each race day will pay down to 5th place.
A leaders jersey will be presented on Sunday to the winner as the current series leader.
Handicaps are:
- Women A = 6 laps
- Women B = 3 laps
- Women C = limit
