Michael Forbes
Michael Forbes was a professional triathlete and an enthusiastic amateur cyclist before he was hit by a truck and ricocheted into the back of a parked four-wheel-drive on Beach Road in June 2008. Two weeks before his accident he won the “Hell of the West” handicap race by riding off the front into a head/crosswind 12 km from the finish. He rates this as his finest achievement – by winning a race the way that he always wanted to!
The accident on our most popular training ground saw Michael become a quadriplegic. He is now actively pursuing safer riding conditions and better protection for cyclists directly related to the circumstances of his accident. He is also working hard to break new ground in relation to recovery from his injury.
