Building on a successful race last year the Club has made some really exciting improvements to the 2013 Road Championships which we hope will increase participation and safety.
-
For the first time entry will be by online pre-registration only. Registration will close on Friday night at 5pm, no entries on the day. Please note for rider safety there are bunch size limits and entry is via the email you received yesterday. Riders must present a current licence when picking up your race number.
-
Each lap of the course includes a short section (2 kms) of relatively wide and smooth uphill gravel road – Strata Bianca! This creates some interest, some extra challenge and allows the course to be a complete lap. A course map can be found HERE.
-
There will be no mass men’s start. The first men’s bunch (three laps, 92km) will be Elite, Masters 2/3 or any male rider wishing to become Club Champion. The second men’s bunch (two laps, 64km) will be Masters 4/5 & Masters 6+ & Juniors. This change reflects the safety lessons from last year’s race.
-
For the first time we have included a Men’s C and D grade support race (two laps, 64km) which will be released as one or two bunches depending on entry numbers. The aim is to increase participation and attract members who might not otherwise compete.
Where? Stockyards Carpark – eastern entrance to the You Yangs Regional Park. Check the map link above.
What Day and Time? Saturday 7 September. Present you race licence and pick up your race number from the entry desk from 8.45 – 9.30am. Race starts 10am.
How Do I Get There? Travel down the Princess Freeway toward Geelong. Take the Little River exit. Turn right onto Little River Road and head toward Little River. Continue through Little River, cross the railway line and turn left onto You Yangs Road. At the intersection of You Yangs Road and Ripley Road turn right. After about 3km turn left onto Drysdale Rd. After about 1km the road becomes unsealed continue for another 300m and turn left into the Stockyards You Yangs Regional Park car park. Do not park anywhere else. A large open under croft is available for warming up (wind trainers) and shelter. Water and toilets are available. Non roadies can spend time tearing up the MTB trails in the park, for free.
NB: Water provided is from rainwater tanks, you may prefer to bring your own.
How Do I Enter? On line entries are open and close Friday 6/9 at 5pm sharp, again no entries on the day. The Men’s Open Club Championship and MAS2/3 bunch has a rider limit. If you normally race in Men’s C or D Grade or Masters 4+ road events consider entering either the Masters 4/5/6+ or C/D bunch.
Wait List and Scratching Policy: Should any event fill a wait list option will pop up. If riders scratch/withdraw wait listed riders will be offered those places. If you withdraw before Friday 5pm (info@skcc.com.au) you will receive a $20 refund. If you choose not to race after Friday at 5pm please email us anyway so we give your spot to a wait listed rider.
How Much? $21.50, which includes the on-line processing cost. SKCC members only with full race licence. (No 3 race Licences for any of the events being run on the day including the support races).
Prizes: The Club Champion will be awarded to the winner of the Men’s and Women’s race. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be awarded in each age category, so a Masters 2/3 rider may be first over the line and be awarded the Club Championship and will also win 1st in their respective age category. As usual no cash prizes for the Club Championships, only glory.
C & D Grade Support races will receive a trophy for the winner and medals for 2nd & 3rd places.
